This 6-week course, taught by Cullen MacLennan (@ceramicsbycullen) will provide students with hands-on instruction as they learn all of the steps of making pottery on the wheel.  Class will be held Tuesday Evenings May 6th-June 10th from 6:30-9PM at Trade Oak Cliff (1300 S Polk St. Suite #234, located at Tyler Station, 4 doors down from Oak Cliff Brewery.) 

Students will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the pottery wheel  in this comprehensive course. Can’t make all of the dates or want extra studio time? Extra wheel studio time  will be available Saturday, May 17th and 31st from 1-3PM for $40 each day. Whether it’s your first time on the wheel, or a practice you want to deepen, Cullen has a wealth of knowledge to bring to each student as the class progresses.  

Night 1 : Introduction to throwing - wedging, centering, and pulling walls

Night 2: Throwing continues

Night 3: Trimming - refining your vessels

Night 4: Throwing continues - exploring ‘complex’ shapes 

Night 5: Wrapping up on the wheel - finish trimming and prepare for the kiln

Night 6: Glazing your pieces

Aprons will be provided, but we encourage students to wear comfortable clothing that they don’t mind getting a little dirty. Don’t worry though, clay washes out easily :) We recommend short nails and long hair tied back. 

The final night, we will communicate pickup dates for work (about 1-2 weeks later). Once glazed and fired, all pieces will be dishwasher and microwave safe ~
